On Wednesday, March 12, former Maranatha High School standout Cider Canon’s current college team, the Davidson Wildcats, lost 12-0 in their NCAA Division I baseball game against the Charlotte 49ers.
The game took place at Hayes Stadium. This was their first matchup against the 49ers this season.
The Wildcats’ next game is scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Field against UMass Minutemen.
In January 2025, Mecklenburg County Magistrate Teresa Stokes signed the release of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat arrestee later accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light-rail.
Mecklenburg County received $3.3 million from a Chicago-based political foundation after leaders agreed to “reduce the use of incarceration” for repeat criminals like DeCarlos Brown, Jr.
The upcoming week starting Monday, Sept. 8 will feature these former Verdugos area high school athletes.
