On Friday, March 14, former Maranatha High School standout AJ Campana’s current college team, the Chapman Panthers, won 3-2 in their NCAA Division III baseball game against the Whittier Poets.
The game took place at Hugh B. Mendez Stadium. This was their first matchup against the Poets this season.
The Panthers’ next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at W.O. Hart Park against Whittier Poets.
In January 2025, Mecklenburg County Magistrate Teresa Stokes signed the release of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat arrestee later accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light-rail.
Mecklenburg County received $3.3 million from a Chicago-based political foundation after leaders agreed to “reduce the use of incarceration” for repeat criminals like DeCarlos Brown, Jr.
The upcoming week starting Monday, Sept. 8 will feature these former Verdugos area high school athletes.
